MORE ABOUT SUSAN’S BACKGROUND

After graduating from Montclair State College in New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration/Marketing (like most college students, I didn't have a clue as to what I wanted to do so I picked a major that seemed "practical" at the time), I pursued my first professional job within a New York City based advertising agency.  I quickly realized that Madison Avenue was not for me and I floundered for a time without a sense of direction.

In trying to decide what to do next, I came upon the all time best seller for career changers, What Color Is Your Parachute?  I was hooked!  I found that I was fascinated by all aspects of the career transition process and just could not read enough about it.  At first it seemed crazy..."You don't know what you want to do with your career so why not try helping others to figure out what they want to do instead?"  Yet, as I began working with a career counselor of my own, and did a great deal of soul searching, I realized that there were many aspects of this work that suited my nature and life priorities.

Eventually, I pursued a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology at Seton Hall University while simultaneously exploring interests in both career development and human resource management.  Since 1984, I have provided career counseling to thousands of individuals including high school students, undergraduate students, graduate students, and adults in career transition.  I have worked in multiple higher education based career centers including serving for 18 years as Director of the Career Development Center at Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire.

My background also includes experience in corporate outplacement and human resource management in the areas of recruitment, corporate career development, affirmative action, and employee benefits.  I am a Nationally Certified Counselor and I hold Master Career Counselor Membership status through the National Career Development Association.  I am a qualified administrator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a respected personality preference assessment tool.  As part of my professional development activities, I have also studied career coaching trends and client support practices offered by the Career Coach Institute and the Career Coach Academy.

Through my private practice, OPTIONS, I provide a variety of services to adults in career transition and teens/young adults with or without college as a goal.  I also develop and lead workshops, seminars and courses for credit that relate to various career development topics.
