SERVICES
Amount of time spent in career counseling varies according to individual needs and interests. I will offer you some options depending on your interests and
needs. As we proceed, you will determine when your needs have been met and when you want additional support with a career transition. Sessions are either conducted face to face or long distance via phone and e-mail. Popular career assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and SkillScan are offered. In addition, a variety of handouts and exercises are provided to complement on-going sessions and to support your progress. > Career Assessment - including the following popular career assessment tools: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and SkillScan Advance Pack. > Career Exploration and Reality Testing Guidance - Many seek information about career areas of interest but don't know how to go about gathering such information. You will gain knowledge and skills for exploring and reality testing career possibilities that intrigue you most. > Resume/Cover Letter Development Support - Job seekers tend to develop a generic resume that lists current and prior work responsibilities but doesn't necessarily speak to the needs of the employers they contact. In contrast, you will gain enhanced self promotion skills so that your resumes, cover letters, and other marketing documents highlight your key strengths and emphasize results that are of interest to your target employers. > Video Taped Mock 'Behavior –Based’ Interview - A common interview format these days is the ‘behavior-based interview’. In a behavior-based interview, the focus is on asking questions aimed at identifying whether an interviewee has the targeted skill sets required for a specific job. This 90 minute session allows you to practice your interviewing skills and build up confidence without the real job being on the line. A skills assessment session can be scheduled prior to the mock interview to enhance understanding of your key strengths as well as to develop a skills vocabulary. > Job Search Strategy Training (including use of the Internet) - It's common for job seekers to utilize more 'traditional' job search strategies that make them just another prospect in a sea of many. You will gain knowledge and experience with additional job search strategies that help you to stand out from the crowd and maximize your chances of connecting with employers of interest. The focus is on tapping into the 'hidden job market'... using strategies that foster connections in industries and career fields that interest you. > Education and Skill Development Planning - Some people know that they would like to go to school to earn a degree or develop their skills but they don't know what to study or how to begin the skill development process. You will clarify your educational objectives and identify or confirm preferred area(s) of study as well as determine a game plan for developing the skill sets you need to reach your career goals. > Individual Career Counseling/Coaching Sessions - Additional counseling/coaching sessions are available to support you with follow through towards the goals you set or to cover specific career issues and/or concerns that extend beyond the scope of the other services described above.
